I recently bought a blackberry classic, here are some notable things about it.
I haven’t gotten the BlackBerry World yet, though it doesn’t seem too hard to get back
Youtube works perfectly with the built-in browser. However, many other sites don’t work so for those cases I downloaded an up-to-date-ish version of Firefox from June 2020, its a bit slower than the BlackBerry browser, and doesn’t even have nipple support. Watching 16:9 videos on a 1:1 3,5 inch screen isn’t the best experience, but you get used to it pretty quickly.
The camera is fine when it’s in focus. The focus isn’t that terrible, but most images will be slightly blurry.
Typing on the keyboard feels great. Touchscreen keyboards were a mistake. Someone should make a blackberry style keyboard dongle that plugs in to the bottom of your phone. Android already supports USB keyboards through the OTG protocol.
The 1:1 screen means autorotate won’t be necessary, meaning you can easily use it while lying down in bed without it rotating the screen.
When I first got it, I noticed how much I just opened my phone for no reason, other than being slightly bored. After opening the BlackBerry, I would be confused and didn’t know what to do
BlackBerry maps suck, for me it shows all street names, but doesn’t allow me to search for an address. Another annoying thing is that it turns off when it’s cold, so don’t try using it for navigation during the winter. Get lost!
When it is cold it gets slow and eventually turns off. This sucks if you live in a cold place, but would not be a problem in Sambabwe
I think the speaker on the phone I got is damaged in some way, because the max volume is very low, and it just doesn’t sound very good
The flashlight is too blueish. Many people don’t use the flash at all, but I use it all the time. Not for lowlight photography, but just when its dark and I want to see things.
This Phone has made me waste less time (on My Phone anyway) like Sam once said:
After switching to BlackBerry, its freed up so much of my time
What have you been able to do with this time

Congratulations Kalle. Very nice.January 6, 2021 at 5:46 am #45656
Got the blackberry world to work. Turns out some of the apps on it are just android emulated, but that makes them easier to download. There aren’t really that many apps that are worth getting. There is apparently a native twitter app that still gets updates called Bird10, but I haven’t tried it. It doesn’t really have a good version of tetris which is the only game I’d consider getting.
You can find the tutorial I used here. If you want to do it on your own BB10 device.March 2, 2021 at 6:08 pm #46752dmitryParticipantFUNK: 65Rank: Fresh Spider Monkey
Me too! And I’ve got pretty much the same experience. So nice to have this thread and, actually, a forum on FunkyTime website. And the website itself! This things become more and more rare. Anyway, about BlackBerry.
Last Autumn my Sony Ericsson W850i started turn to turn off within a couple of minutes on call and I’ve decided that it is might be the right time to upgrade to some modern communicator. That’s how I found out that BlackBerry Classic exists and began to wonder if it is the one. After a brief academic YouTUBE research, I’ve stumbled upon one of the Sam’s best videos: why is he still using his BlackBerry in 2020. That was the moment, when I found them all: Sam, his amazing YouTube show and my best communicator ever. Actually, I never understood why somebody can watch a youtuber in his good conscience, until that day. So, I ordered some used and repaired BlackBerry Classic for about $64.25 [charger and even headset included!] and joined a fast closing club of proud BlackBerry Boys.
Now I use it for almost a month and love about it almost everything. It is not perfect, but neither do I. The camera is.. well, better than that time, when I’ve filmed a squirell on a tree on Sony Ericsson W850i and when I came home and watched it, there was a five big brown pixels moving on a number of big green pixels for about half of a minute. BlackBerry’s camera is much better than that and, if you are not filming ducks on the ice when it is -15°C, then you might actually have a picture with an easily recognizible objects on it. In case with ducks, turns out that -15°C is enough to turn it off faster than you can get a good picture. Looks like even in this we can agree: we both prefer Spring and Summer.
And when I fixed BlackBerry World, I began my journey to the places where no man has gone in a while, except Kalle69, who apparently is on the same mission of exploration. I can agree, most of the apps are useless, but still — they are fun to excessively download and discover what is it all about, and then delete it most of the time.
I do not have time to continue my story and you don’t have time to continue to read it, so I’ll end it like that. Maybe some time I’ll provide additional details on my experience with BlackBerry in 2021.March 2, 2021 at 7:49 pm #46757
If you were using a Sony Ericsson W850i, I guess you did acually upgrade.
The blackberry can do the 2 things i was doing on my last android phone, it can watch youtube, and use discord. My windows phone which I had until 2019 couldn’t use discord, so i guess compared to the windows phone at least it was an upgrade. And the 2 things I use it for it does both badly, youtube because the small 1:1 screen and discord because it’s slow and is using an old version of discord. It’s not a bad thing though, it’s good because it makes my phone less distracting.March 19, 2021 at 10:30 pm #47200
All of blackberry 10 is shutting down for good on the 4th of january 2022.
And without the blackberry services, you’ll basically not be able to use it at all. Not even text or calls. Well, hopefully the blackberry releasing in 2021 would be a good upgrade, but I probably won’t be able to afford it anyway.
Hopefully they extend the support, but doesn’t look like it.December 28, 2021 at 10:12 pm #57285
Well @sam, you’ve got about a week to finish the blackberry end of life song, come on.April 13, 2022 at 2:04 am #58713GoatdrawsParticipantFUNK: 75Rank: Fresh Spider Monkey
I had blackberry from Cex which is a used tech story in the UK but the phone broke I am saving up for a blackberry phone tho.April 24, 2022 at 6:04 am #58873
Welp, my blackberry broke, after I dropped it in the toilet. Well, I didn’t drop it but it fell out of my pocket. Point is it wont turn on anymore
The blackberry10 os phones are very usable even today, as long as you dont mind the lack of apps, and the browser that doesn’t work with a lot of websites. I am considering buying another one at some point.April 24, 2022 at 12:22 pm #58874
