A game that does not rely on “jump scares”.
Some are good but not if it’s the entire reason for the game being spooky.
Sound design! Alien: Isolation was phenomenal. I still have such vivid memories of listening for the Xenomorph’s footsteps from various hiding spots
. Good voice acting as well.Another one that stood out for me was the first Silent Hill game (I wish they rebooted this series, there are always rumours that they will).
Agree about the jump scares.
I think a good horror game needs to have a lot in the unknown. because would you be scared if you knew everything that would happen? Personally no that defeats the thrill of it
I know what will make a bad horror game.
Overusing jump scares, pitch black areas where you can’t see anything, using too much dark music.
You know it’s a good horror game if it’s scary even under daylight with happy music.
And the story is important too. You don’t just make everything scary. You have to build it up.
Scary scenes are only scary if they are not overused.
What makes a good horror game would probably be one that has good quality sound effects and has a background story to it I don’t like the one that don’t have them. example granny
Most people would say jump scares or darkness but I say plot development, if you don’t tell a good story the right way then it doesn’t work.
Here’s what I agree that makes a good horror video game it is the atmosphere basically how you feel in the game do you feel secluded do you feel that your guns are going to run out do you feel that you’re in danger and you have to run the game allows you to fight and give you enough weapons you’d still be horror if the monsters have ways to get you down to take you down such as The evil within 2 which terrified the heck out of me
The music also plays a part of it
Has to be tense and scary
Jump-scare sparingly kind of work
hacking also take some part d acting has to be good in the video game to make you really care for the characters such as in The evil within 2
You have to feel for the characters and connect with them
The story has to make sense
And really want you to see it’s conclusion
And side stories help
@AndrewRoblesfuture1987 I can’t wait to play The Evil Within 2! I got it on sale back in December, but I’m saving it for when I have a few days off. I absolutely loved the first Evil Within, an almost perfect match for my kind of game.

If you loved the first you will you got to love the sequel
Yes it’s a pretty good game the more time you have the more you will get out of the game I hope you get a good amount of enjoyment out of the game

What makes a good horror game is the longevity the extra goodies the story the music the dialog and also the interactions follow the long dialogue
They got to instill fear in you
Like a creature you wouldn’t want to catch in a dark corner
You have to be a scared of the character you’re playing as
