It always has, it has to use cookies in order to work as intended.
You can see the Privacy Policy (Cookies section) for more details.
It automatically logs you out every two days, but if you press the keep me signed inn button it will take 2 weeks.
I think this is so that people can’t steal the cookie of you being signed inn and keep being signed in for a long time. While this is not likely to happen, it can happen if you have installed malware or if someone has physical access to your computer.
