February 1, 2020 at 1:47 pm #21883I have used
Logic Pro X, ProTools on my Mac and
Nuendo, Cubase, ProTools,Sonar(now called Cakewalk),FL studio on my PC.
I ended up using Logic Pro X, because it was just the easiest to use for me. It comes with a bunch of decent analogue instruments so I didn’t have to buy that many extra plugin instruments for it. And I love the Alchemy plugin, which is an all in one multi-functional synthesizer, that comes bundled.
ProTools is really good for recording, but I only use midi so it was not for me.
Nuendo and Cubase are basically the same. I felt the UI is a bit too convoluted. I’ve been using it for my research for 4 years, but I still can’t operate it perfectly. But I think if you have only windows, this is the best option. The amount of instrument you can use out of the box is about as same as Logic Pro X, some say the instruments sound quality are a bit low, but you can always make them sound good with EQ’s and technique.
FL studio has a really friendly UI and the plugins that come bundled are great for electronic music. The updates are also free once you buy it.
If you don’t want to pay at all, Cakewalk is a good option. It was once a payed DAW called SONAR, so you can use a almost fully featured DAW for free(since it became free, they reduced the amount of plugins and instrument). You have to find some plugins for this DAW, otherwise the included instruments won’t get you far.
All DAWs(except for Pro tools) are basically since you are going to rely on plugins anyway, so I chose the one with the UI I liked the most. And on mac, it’s much easier for me to manage all the open windows.

February 2, 2020 at 8:03 am #22041I use Acid music studio because of two main reasons:
1. I can cut things up into pieces and move the pieces around
2. I can change the timing signature at any point in the song
Basically, the software is cheap but also doesn’t limit my imagination and creativity. -
