Google is not very ethical with handling your data, and theres a whole community of those trying to avoid Google and Google service. And theres a whole lot of alternatives to google and their services that have been developed.
Theres things like the Duckduckgo Search engine, the Brave web browser, ProtonMail (email service), F-Droid (an alternative app store) and a lot more.
What are your thoughts on Google alternatives? Are there any you use or suggest? Or any you wouldn’t use/trust?

February 20, 2020 at 2:33 am #24500I actually don’t care about google collecting my data, but you can always use a VPN or a TOR browser.
February 20, 2020 at 2:36 am #24502Agree i don’t really care that much, but knowing that my data isn’t stolen is great.
February 20, 2020 at 8:13 am #24527That’s fair enough. Lot’s of people don’t mind paying for Google services with their data.
But I’d just like to point out that using a VPN or Tor won’t do anything. It’s when you sign into a Google that they start collecting your data. And the data they collect isn’t just location an IP address. They keep track of everything you do while on their services. So that they can better target ads to you. And until recently, they read your emails for this purpose. And to a certain extent, they still do reads your emails.
Please note, I’m not trying to argue with you or be unfriendly. Just explaining that VPNs/Tor does practically nothing to Google’s data collection.
February 20, 2020 at 12:10 pm #24556I forgot to mention, Google didn’t work on my Tor browser so I don’t use Google services on it. I too use DuckDuckgo or StartPage, and for work I also use Protonmail.
February 20, 2020 at 1:43 pm #24559@hidazip I didn’t realize Google didn’t work on Tor. So I guess your right about using Tor to stop Google data collecting.
Is Proton Mail good? I’ve been considering switching to it. Is it usable with a free account?
February 20, 2020 at 2:55 pm #24562I’m using a custom domain so I don’t know that much about the free account.
I would pay if you want to label and categorize your e-mails or if you want to use more than 1 address.
Security wise, it’s the same so if you don’t need these things, the free account would be enough I guess.
Oh and the storage is also limited to 500MB, but I think it’s enough if you don’t receive that many attachments.
February 20, 2020 at 5:10 pm #24572@hidazip cool.
